Return to Oneness · 2024 · Installation, film, sonification
What if technology became the geology of a future ecosystem? MetaLife brings discarded electronics, metal, fossils and living Physarum into relation through installation, film and sound.

Year — 2024
Work — MetaLife: Return to Oneness
Materials — Physarum, fallen tree parts, scrap metal and discarded technology
Methods — Time-lapse film, Fiji / ImageJ analysis and Max/MSP sonification
A nine-day time-lapse follows Physarum growing across discarded electronics and fossils. Image analysis in Fiji/ImageJ and sound synthesis in Max/MSP translate aspects of these changing processes into an audiovisual encounter.
Fallen tree parts, scrap metal and found technologies form an inverted speculative tree, with film and sound integrated into its trunk. The assemblage invites a reconsideration of what becomes waste, what persists and how unfamiliar forms of coexistence might emerge.
Biological, geological and technological afterlives, encountered through sculpture, film and sound.
Developed for the MA Art and Science at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Presented at the CSM Graduate Showcase in 2024.
